The Sick Lion

This week's new Apple Arcade release is an interesting little game called The Lullaby of Life that aims to lift its players' spirits in novel ways.

Hailing from developer 1 Simple Game, based in Jalisco, Mexico, this one's perhaps best described as a music-driven puzzle adventure where you'll work to re-energise a long-dormant universe.

You play as BomBo, a strange creature whose small tunes can light up the world around him, returning music, colour, and life to his surroundings by precisely timing his musical notes. It sounds and looks very pleasant, and I'm quite excited to try it myself when it arrives on Apple Arcade later today.

Beyond a Steel Sky, Creaks, and Necrobarista are certainly hard acts to follow, but The Lullaby of Life seems so completely different to any of those that comparisons aren't at all fair. Still, Apple Arcade has been on a wonderful roll recently, so it'd be great to see The Lullaby of Life continue that upwards trend.

You'll find it available for download later today from the App Store, though given the fact that it's an Apple Arcade release, you'll of course need an active subscription to play. That'll set you back $4.99 a month or $49.99 a year.

I'm curious to see when Apple's change of direction for the service will become apparent in its (almost) weekly games. The last several releases have all been narrative-driven games that don't necessarily lend themselves well to the high-retention models and regular updates of, say, Grindstone or Sneaky Sasquatch.
Searching for more top-quality puzzle games? Here are 25 of the very best for iPhone & iPad

"Comparatively calm, Mistress Blythe, comparatively calm. She says, says she, `Well, Providence sends seasons of humiliation to a country, same as to individuals. You Grits have been cold and hungry for many a year. Make haste to get warmed and fed, for you won't be in long.' `Well, now Cornelia,' I says, `mebbe Providence thinks Canada needs a real long spell of humiliation.' Ah, Susan, have YOU heard the news? The Liberals are in."aiimjournal.com

Two of the most promising Apple Watch launch games are now available to download from the App Store to your iPhone, so you've got them ready for the device's debut later this week.

First up is Spy_Watch, from Surgeon Simulator developer Bossa Studios. This game makes you the handler for a secret agent, who you send off on various risky missions. He'll ask you questions, which you can respond to from the Watch.

You can play this on your iPhone if you wish, and respond to your agent through lock screen notifications. But the game is designed specifically for the Apple Watch. You'll find out more in our preview.

Spy_Watch costs £1.49 / $1.99 and has no ads or in-app purchases. Grab it here.

If that's not your style, how about Runeblade? This is a condensed RPG where you use various spells and runes to fight fantasy critters. Everything has been streamlined and simplified to fit on the tiny Watch screen.

The actual game is played on your Watch, but you can buy special booster objects with in-app purchases on your iPhone. As such, Runeblade is free to play and available here.

Need more Apple Watch games? These are all the ones you can get right now. And these are the ones we're looking forward to.
A FOX caught in a trap escaped, but in so doing lost his tail. Thereafter, feeling his life a burden from the shame and ridicule to which he was exposed, he schemed to convince all the other Foxes that being tailless was much more attractive, thus making up for his own deprivation. He assembled a good many Foxes and publicly advised them to cut off their tails, saying that they would not only look much better without them, but that they would get rid of the weight of the brush, which was a very great inconvenience. One of them interrupting him said, "If you had not yourself lost your tail, my friend, you would not thus counsel us."

Remember the PSP? Me neither, but someone does and they've brought you the PPSSPP VR, an emulator for Sony's initial handheld offering that lets you play PSP games on the Oculus Rift DK2 in VR.

PPSSPP VR brings a lot of new elements to the mix with head tracking, stereoscopic 3D and pre-warping, which means rather than just playing PSP games with the equivalent of a PSP strapped to your face you can actually look around the game world at a higher resolution than the original console.

Obviously, in addition to the emulator you'll also need an ISO created from an original PSP game, which you need to legally own before acquiring, so do be sure to own original copies of games you're trying to play on the emulator, you monsters.

This is the first version of the emulator to add VR functionality but it's based on the well-respect PPSSPP emulator, so many of the bugs with the emulation are already ironed out.

Initial tests seem to indicate that my Xbox 360 controller worked fine without any tweaking and most of the menus are usable from within the headset. Game compatibility seems solid and should only improve over time.

You can pick up the emulator from the Oculus forums, but remember you need to own the games you're trying to play legally beforehand. Fans of playing 10 year old games in VR should also consider Dolphin VR, which you should also legally own the games for. Seriously.

What rocky heart to water will not wear?

"Well, no, but there is one running through the maple grove into the Glen pond. And the pond itself isn't far away. You'll be able to fancy you have your own Lake of Shining Waters again."

&#;Deads zombie survival mode is fun begin here; defeating zombies is hard to compare to humans soldiers. But if anybody applies a proper strategy, it becomes much more accessible; for example, it’s hard to defeat zombies at night compared to daytime. So wait for daylight, then attack zombies’ homes.
